Packaging and Design

As the monitor is really big it comes in a large carton box with protection foam. In addition the user gets an external power supply, two DisplayPort cables and USB-C.

Due to its size the monitor needs pretty much space. The stand is made from aluminum and looks very sophisticated. Rubber covers from the bottom on the support surfaces of the stand base protect the table from scratches and prevent the monitor from sliding on smooth surfaces. The stand changes over a handle which helps to move the monitor. It has full adjustment, with 5" of height, 30° swivel in each direction, 35° backward tilt, and 5° forward. It has no portrait-mode.

The plane of the screen is visibly bent along the cylinder so that the right and left edges are pushed forward towards the user. By reflection on the screen, it is seen that the bend is more or less uniform over a larger area and its radius is nearly two meters. Only on the sides in the vertical region of about 2-3 cm the screen is rather flat, and at the edge it is even slightly convex. The front surface of the screen looks like a monolithic dark (not totally black) semi-matte surface. It is bounded by a relatively narrow frame of matte black plastic from below, and by a narrow edging made of the same material along the perimeter. Having displayed the image on the screen, you can see that there are narrow margins between the outer boundaries of the screen and the actual display area. The back panel is also made of black plastic with a matte surface and a shallow relief.

The screen has 3H-hardness plastic layer which provides an anti-glare effect. There are LEDs on the bottom bezel and you can change the colors and brightness of them. Also they can light flashing or pulsating.
On the back right side there are three control buttons, a power button and a joystick.

Main Characteristics

The monitor is equipped with four digital inputs: DisplayPort in full-size, two HDMI, one of which is version 2.0, and the other with support for MHL 2.1, and a USB 3.1 Type C interface. This last input seems to be used as an input for a USB (3.0) -concentrator with four outputs, one of which with increased power, and a video input in the DisplayPort ALT Mode. In the menu, you can choose to switch on the USB hub when the monitor is in standby mode.

The power indicator lights bright blue, in standby mode it is orange, and does not light up if the monitor is switched off. When the monitor is on and there is no menu on the screen, when the first button is pressed or the joystick is pressed, a start menu of four items is displayed on the screen.
There are relatively many settings that change the brightness and color balance. For example, a user can choose one of the preset color temperature profiles, and manually adjust the gain and offset of three primary colors.

Conclusion

The Acer XR382CQK monitor attracts attention, both with its appearance and rich functionality. Despite the lack of support of high-frequency updates, support of AMD's FreeSync technology, as well as low response time and output delays, this monitor can to be assigned to gaming models. This ultra-wide curved screen will provide an almost panoramic view in games and when watching movies, and when working with texts and images, it will increase comfort, reducing distortion of the edges. In general, the combination of characteristics Acer XR382CQK can be attributed to universal models, suitable for typical office work, for working with graphics (if enough space sRGB), with CAD/CAM, as well as for video editing.
