Review of a Portable Mouse Microsoft Arc Touch

Computer mouse truly belongs to the line of universal and integral peripheral devices in the computer layout. This is not an exaggeration as practically any PC activity involves the work of a mouse. With the progress of computer layout and emergence of laptops and netbooks, traditional mouse has outlived major transformations and enabled the work with those gadgets by means of wireless connection. The popularity of portative mouse pieces grows each and every day due to their compact size and handiness in usage. Developers of Microsoft Arc Touch put the design, handiness in usage and technical peculiarities of a mouse in the limelight, allowing the targeted customer groups to admire their product.

Integration

Microsoft Arc Touch integration is rather modest but contains all necessary elements for effective utilization. The initial package embraces the user manual and USB radio module. USB radio module should be given a special attention. It is very small and can be overlooked while unwrapping. On the other hand, such dimensions are the major advantage of the module since it’s practically invisible when connected with the laptop or netbook socket; its overhang approximates 1 cm. This way, the module can be connected with the device even during conveyance. If there is a necessity to unplug the USB module, it’s possible to fix it on the back side of the mouse. The bottom of Microsoft Arc Touch is equipped with a special magnetic binding dedicated to the module fixture. This binding is quite efficient and prevents the module from falling down during conveyance.

Technical Peculiarities of Microsoft Arc Touch:

— dimensions: 130x58x15 mm.;
— number of keys: 3;
— sensor of motion transmitter is based on Microsoft BlueTrack;
— design: symmetrical;
— wireless connection is realized with the help of a radio channel and functions 9 meters away from the module;
— power supply is realized with the help of 2 type AAA batteries.

Microsoft BlueTrack technology used as sensor of motion transmitter is considered to be a distinctive feature of this mouse model. The name of the technology highlights the essence of its functionality: manufacturers decided to equip their mouse with blue LED and CMOS matrix with high resolution instead of traditional red LED and lasers. Blue LED emits sufficient amount of light to cover quite large area and stimulates more efficient distribution of information which reaches the matrix. BlueTrack technology allows customers to employ the mouse on different surfaces despite the structure or prominence. The mouse will operate as on wood surfaces, so on fabric uneven surfaces. Mice that use traditional red LED or lasers can’t boast such versatility as they are targeted to be used only on specified surfaces. This, undoubtedly, exerts some inconvenience in usage.

Framework

Visual uniqueness of Microsoft Arc Touch design gradually develops into uniqueness in usage. It should be stated that dimensions of the mouse are not small as compared to other products of the same line. However, this aspect doesn’t trigger any inconveniences during conveyance and is rather easy in handling.

Mouse framework consists of two parts: front and back parts. The back part of the framework is rubberized outside but has the so-called ‘skeleton’ inside which makes this part movable. Such technical capability allows the mouse to take straightened or bent position (which is fixable) depending on the customer’s preferences and convenience. When the mouse takes bent position, it automatically turns on and connects with USB radio module. The front part of the mouse is equipped with keys, battery bay and motion transmitter BlueTrack.

In addition, the front part contains sensory scroll bar which differs dramatically from mechanical scroll bars in usage. Manual speed and inertness control is supposed to be the basic peculiarity of sensory scroll bar. The user needs to touch the central part of the scroll bar in order to initiate the activity; if the user keeps the finger on the scroll for a couple of seconds, this will lead to the completion of the initiated activity.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean that only the central part of the sensory scroll bar is active. Bottom and top areas correspond to the Page down/Page up option which enables the jump from one to the other page of the document.

Software

Microsoft Arc Touch doesn’t need any auxiliary software to be installed on the device. This is viewed by customers as a welcome privilege as it saves them from tiresome soft search and uploading. The user just needs to plug the USB module in the specified socket, the rest of work is done by the module. Once the module is connected with the device, it automatically accomplishes the installation of necessary drivers. The process of installation won’t take more than a few seconds and, after that, the module activates the mouse. Of course, it’s feasible to download some additional programs from the official site of the manufacturer if there is a need to adjust advanced settings of the mouse.
