Mushkin Releases SSDs for Ultra-Thin Devices
Tendencies of the the past twelve months vividly demonstrate that ultra-thin devices are gradually replacing traditional laptops and nettops. Indeed, ultrabooks are becoming in great demand as with corporate clients, so with average customers. This is explained firstly by their ultra-compact and ultra-convenient design, and secondly, by their unmatched performance and data storage facilities. The latter is secured by dedicated SSD solutions which are delivered in compact format. Mushkin follows the current market tendencies, introducing ultra-compact SSD series, codenamed 7mm Enhanced Chronos Deluxe.
The 7mm Chronos Deluxe series is represented by six models of 60GB, 90GB, 120GB, 180GB, 240GB, and 480GB capacities. They have been developed as an alternative to the Chronos Deluxe 9.3 mm SSD line with the aim to absolutely comply with ultrabook form-factor. All the models of new series are based on LSI SandForce SF-2281 controller. They employ NAND MLC synchronous flash-memory and manage data via SATA 6 Gb/sec interface. In addition, the manufacturer claims the support of TRIM instruction.
All six models are differentiated not only by volume capacity, but also by performance parameters. Hence, Mushkin Enhanced 7mm Chronos Deluxe 60GB, 90GB and 180GB models demonstrate similar Read/Write speed: 550 Mb/sec in consecutive Read mode and 515 Mb/sec in consecutive Write mode; at the same time, random Write speed (4KB) of all three models approximates 90000 IOPS.
Mushkin Enhanced 7mm Chronos Deluxe 120GB SSD shows 560/515 Mb/sec of consecutive Read/Write speed, and 240GB model – 560/520 Mb/sec correspondingly. Both models show analogous random Write speed (4KB): 90000 IOPS.
Finally, the most voluminous in the series model, Mushkin Enhanced 7mm Chronos Deluxe 480GB, achieves only 540 Mb/sec in consecutive Read mode and 455 Mb/sec in consecutive Write mode. Random Write speed (4KB) does not exceed the index of 42000 IOPS.
