VIA Technologies Inc., a global manufacturer of power-efficient processor platforms, has recently announced the release of its peculiar motherboard, codenamed VAB-800. The major peculiarity of these motherboards is that they will be delivered in two variants: with chips of VIA personal production, WonderMedia (800 MHz), and with Freescale ARM Cortex-A8 1 GHz chips. The volume capacities of DDR3 memory in either variant will equal to 1 GB. VAB-800 is developed in piro-ITX form-factor but is also compatible with blocks of ATX form-factor.



Motherboard VAB-800 accommodates flash-memory of eMMC type with the integrated SATA 3 Gbit/sec sockets. The total volume capacity of flash-memory equals to 64 GB. This model can boast a large number of internal sockets, including a couple of RS-232, two LVDS (to enable the connection with the up-to-date monitors), SATA, JTAG, SDIO, RTC, and a slot for the activation of the external power supply.

Fractal Design, an outstanding Swedish PC cases developer, decided to update its mini-tower Core 1000 chassis model with the purpose to heighten its competitive power. Released in 2011, this case has not undergone major design renovations but its layout has been a bit modernized: the manufacturers integrated a single super-speed USB 3.0 port to provide for a better performance.



Codenamed Core 1000 USB 3.0, this chassis features 175x355x420 mm dimensions and supports mini-ITX/micro-ATX motherboards. It’s housed in a totally black, austere casing and has got a grid-like frontal panel with removable anti-dust filters. Internal layout is predestined to accommodate two 5.25-inch drive bays, two 3.5-inch HDD bays or three 2.5-inch SSD/HDD bays, four PCI expansion cards, CPU coolers of up to 148 mm in height, PSUs of up to 185 mm in length, as well as graphics cards of up to 350 mm in length (without HDD bay) or up to 210 mm in length with an installed HDD bay.

Codenamed Kingston SSDNow V300, the drives are intended specifically for cost-conscious consumers looking to upgrade their desktop or mobile systems. Under the claimed data, the new drives are ten times faster than standard HDDs and feature outstanding speed characteristics, where the spindle achieves 7200 rpm.



Kingston SSDNow V300 is based on SandForce SF-2281 controller and employs SATA 3 interface. The manufacturer offers its new products in three variations of 60GB, 120GB and 240GB capacity.
