HIS Teases New Radeon R9 280X IceQ Boost Clock Graphics Card

HIS is glad to introduce one more high-end solution: the Radeon R9 280X IceQ Boost Clock graphics card that is targeting high-performance PC systems. The model employs turbine-type cooling system with a branded IceQ cooler. It consists of a voluminous copper base (35x28 mm), an aluminum heatsink, four nickel-plated heat-pipes (2x 8 mm and 2x 6 mm), as well as a single 80 mm turbine fan. Such cooling is ideal for multi-GPU configurations in AMD CrossFireX mode, since the distance between adapters does not influence the efficiency of their fans.



The new-comer is based on AMD Radeon R9 280X GPU (28 nm, GCN) with 2048 stream processors. It runs at standard frequencies: 850 MHz – nominal and 1000 MHz – dynamic. Memory is introduced by 3 GB GDDR5 modules, which run at standard 1500 MHz frequencies and reach some 6000 MHz effective index.

AMD Unveils Some Strategic Plans for 2013



Not so long ago AMD held a private presentation for investors and partners dedicated to the strategic plans for 2013. Its PDF-version has recently appeared online and immediately called attention of all interested parties. The most unexpected news concerned the long-awaited Steamroller micro-architecture. According to AMD, the debut of an advanced architecture will be accomplished in the current year, not in 2014 as it was informed earlier. Steamroller will be incorporated into an updated series of AMD Opteron server processors which are to ensure an improved efficiency level on parallel data processing operations.


The other promising piece of news touches upon the launch of a new APU series already this year: AMD Kabini and AMD Temash. Kabini is going to replace Brazos platform employed in small-sized multimedia systems and other hand portable solutions. In its turn, Temash is going to be implemented into highly-efficient tablet PCs, running under Windows 8 OS platform.

Philips Launches 258B6QUEB QHD Monitor with Type-C Port

As part of the Philips Monitors brand, MMD has introduced 258B6QUEB QHD monitor – the first solution in the lineup to support USB 3.1 Type-C interface. This port allows for transferring data and charging external devices (simultaneously) via a single cable. This simplifies the interaction between the display and mobile devices. Along with an advanced Type-C, the model features a set of traditional ports: 3x USB 3.0, VGA, DVI, HDMI, and DisplayPort 1.2.



Philips 258B6QUEB QHD is based on a 25-inch IPS panel, supporting 2560x1440 resolution. It boasts premium color rendering, aspect ratio of 16:9, the widest viewing angles (178/178), standard static contrast of 1000:1, and the top brightness on 350 cd/m2. The panel is fitted with a power-efficient WLED backlight. Besides, the display supports 16.7 million colors.
