VIA Announces the Upcoming Release of VAB-800 Motherboard

VIA Technologies Inc., a global manufacturer of power-efficient processor platforms, has recently announced the release of its peculiar motherboard, codenamed VAB-800. The major peculiarity of these motherboards is that they will be delivered in two variants: with chips of VIA personal production, WonderMedia (800 MHz), and with Freescale ARM Cortex-A8 1 GHz chips. The volume capacities of DDR3 memory in either variant will equal to 1 GB. VAB-800 is developed in piro-ITX form-factor but is also compatible with blocks of ATX form-factor.

Motherboard VAB-800 accommodates flash-memory of eMMC type with the integrated SATA 3 Gbit/sec sockets. The total volume capacity of flash-memory equals to 64 GB. This model can boast a large number of internal sockets, including a couple of RS-232, two LVDS (to enable the connection with the up-to-date monitors), SATA, JTAG, SDIO, RTC, and a slot for the activation of the external power supply.

Kingston and Adata Come up with M.2 SSDs

Within the framework of Computex 2014 both Kingston and Adata are going to introduce their fresh SSD series of M.2 form-factor. In keeping with the manufacturers’ words, the products – SM2280S2 and SR1020NP — are differentiated by some spectacular performance. At present the companies provide only basic info about the drives, leaving their fans in suspense.

Kingston SM2280S3 is based on Phison PS3108 that supports SATA 6 Gb/sec interface only. It ensures 540 MB/sec and 514 MB/sec speed on sequential Read/Write operations. For sure, it’s not the performance innovative M.2 drives should demonstrate (about 10 Gb/sec), although the model considerably surpasses traditional HDDs in this respect.

This SSD series is represented by three models of 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB capacity. All of them employ DDR3 cache-memory with the minimal 256 MB capacity. Besides, the difference in efficiency between other M.2 offers Kingston promises to compensate by a more affordable price.

Corsair Outs ML Series of Fans

Corsair officially launches a new lineup of air fans, entitled ML. The greenhorns are introduced in two form-factors – 120 mm & 140 mm – as well as in three types: ML, ML Pro, ML Pro LED. The first version includes a pair of fans in the kit, the second one supports anti-vibration rubber pads in corners, whereas the third series comes equipped with LED backlight (white, blue or red). Consequently, the price range varies from $24.99 to $39.99.

The key advantage of Corsair ML fans is the incorporation of Magnetic Levitation Bearing. Thanks to magnetic levitation, the fins do not touch the motor, thus eliminating any frictions. This serves for the reduction of noise level and the enhancement of performance.

All 120-mm models rotate at 400-2400 RPM speed; they are supposed to be ideal companions to CPU coolers. At the same time, all 140-mm fans rotate at 400-2000 RPM; they are thought to act perfectly as system fans. On top rotational index the fans produce up to 75-97 CFM …
